222K Featherweights had three different throat plates. Most of the earlier 222K machines had a chromed throat plate with markings 1/8" apart and the markings marked in fractions of an inch up to 3/4". Later 222K machines started having chromed throat plates that had markings 1/8" apart but the markings were labelled 1 to 8. I just came across an article on the cost of Singer 221 Featherweights in the early (1930s) years. I did a bit of follow up research and came up with some, to put it mildly, amazing numbers.I cannot find the average price paid for 221 Featherweights in 2017 but on Ebay it must be somewhere between $300 and $400 for a machine that is in good cosmetic and mechanical condition and ready to sew. It is not unusual for 222K Featherweights purchased from the UK to potentially give electric shocks. Bare electrical wires from the lamp may pose a shock threat. For a while 222K Featherweights sold in the UK used vinyl covered wire for their lamps and motors. UK voltage is 230 volts which sometimes overheats the lamp wires and melts the wires protective cover exposing the wires as can be seen in the photograph below.
