Toy Singer Sewing Machines From France

There are toy Singer sewing machines from France that are in colors that were not produced in the USA. We currently have a rare gold machine, a green machine with a cute carrying case that Singer only produced in France, a second green machine and a chocolate brown machine. All French toy sewing machines were produced at the Singer factory in Bonniéres, France. The clamps that were produced with these machines are marked with a "B" indicating they were made in Bonniéres. Below are photographs of the French machines we currently have in stock. The gold French toy Singer The...

Our Featherweight Preparations Before Being Sold

222K and 221 Featherweights. In both our store and on eBay all of the Featherweights that we sell are serviced, adjusted and tested. More importantly before being serviced all our Featherweights, both 222K and 221, are dismantled and each part is thoroughly checked. Any broken, faulty or missing parts are replaced with original Singer 222K or 221 parts. All parts are then thoroughly cleaned, inspected again and appropriate parts given two coats of a good quality carnauba wax. The machine is then reassembled, serviced, adjusted and tested for sewing. No Featherweight is put up for sale until it runs and...

Smelly Singer Featherweight Cases

Smelly Singer Featherweight carrying cases. Some do and some don't. Many have that "old " smell which is common to many vintage items and is acceptable but a lot of cases have developed an absolutely knock your head back putrid smell. Below are some suggestions to try in order to get rid of that horrible smell. How many methods and which ones you try is dependent on your level of frustration. To be honest, in most cases it is more reliable and easier just to buy a replacement case. (Disclosure: We do sell original Singer Featherweight cases which do not smell.)...

Singer Featherweight 222K - A New Design (Part 4)

In this last blog on the new design of the Singer 222K Featherweight other differences between the 222K Featherweight and the 221 Featherweight will be looked at. Enhanced Throat Plate The throat plate on a 222K Featherweight is quite different from the throat plate on a 221 Featherweight. The 222K throat plate is longer and narrower. The 222K plate is 4 ¼” long by 1 7/8” wide compared to the 221 throat plate which is 2” long and 2 ¼” wide. As with the later 221 Featherweight throat plates, the 222K throat plates were graduated in increments from one quarter...

Singer Featherweight 222K - A New Design (Part 3)

The second major difference between the Singer 221 Featherweight and the 222K Featherweight is the very impressive ability of the 222K to be able to lower and raise its feed dogs. The feed dog lowering and raising is done by means of a lever which moves up and down. This lever is to the left of the stitch length indictor plate and its lever. When production of the 222K Featherweight began, the feed dog indicator plate was an unmarked chromed steel plate. This is an original Singer Featherweight part not an aftermarket part. (Good luck in finding aftermarket parts that...
