Featherweight 221 Featherweight 222K
Almost all Singer Featherweights, both models 221 and 222K, have a serial number that begins with an "A" or an "E". Singer Featherweight machines that were made in the USA have prefixes that begin with "A". They were produced in the Singer factory in Elizabethport, NJ. The first Singer 221 Featherweights were produced in the USA in 1933 and had serial numbers that began with "AD". Useless Information About the Featherweight Badge Pins.

An interesting useless fact. One of the very small differences between Featherweights that were produced in the USA and those produced in Canada and the UK is that the pins that hold the Singer badges in place have different heads. Featherweights produced in the USA have badge pins that have rounded, smooth heads. Canadian and UK Singer machines, both 221 and 222K Featherweights, have badge pins that have a fancy rosette pin head. Like I said, useless, but maybe interesting information for Featherweight junkies.
Availability of Singer 221 and 222K Featherweights
Featherweight 221 Featherweight 222K
It is not uncommon for Singer Featherweight purchasers to look for a Featherweight that was produced in a particular year, usually a birth year but not always. Some years of production are more difficult to find than others. If you are looking for a Featherweight produced before 1933 you are out of luck as Featherweights were first produced in 1933. Black Featherweights were not produced after 1961 so for any year after that you are also out of luck. Between 1933 and 1957 just over 1.75 million US model Singer 221 Featherweights were produced with some years having over 200,000...
